In fact, many days I just did dozens of sets of 5 or 10 pushups at a time. This really helped me break my goal down into much more manageable pieces.

Its easy to do a workout but the hardest part is consistency. Once one masters the consistency then they have an easy road ahead of them. Keep it up and your path will be easy. I agree. Without consistency, motivation is nothing. You can be motivated to do something, but unless you actually consistently work towards your goal, you'll pretty much end up staying the same.
