Why does dye diffuse in water
Water is made of molecules two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom stuck together. Molecules in a liquid have enough energy to move around and pass each other. This is why water can flow and take the shape of the glass you pour it into. Molecules in a gas have lots of energy and spread out even more than molecules in a liquid.
Warm water has more energy than cold water, which means that molecules in warm water move faster than molecules in cold water. The food coloring you add to the water is pushed around by the water molecules. How do you add color to water? Mix one part royal blue paste or gel food coloring with one part violet paste or gel food coloring using a toothpick or chopstick. Stir the colors together, thoroughly, using the toothpick or chopstick. Add a tiny bit of black gel or paste food coloring until you reach the depth of color desired.
Does food coloring change the density of water? When we add more sugar to each color of water, we are increasing its density. This happens because the mass of the sugar is increasing, but the volume in each color of water remains constant. By adding food coloring, we can visually see the different densities we created.
What is food coloring made of? They are made in a lab with chemicals derived from petroleum, a crude oil product, which also happens to be used in gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, and tar. What color of water evaporates the fastest? Obviously darker-colored water absorbs more light if it's exposed to sunlight and thus heats up more and evaporates faster.

This is because ink molecules are small in size as a result they occupy the spaces or gap within the water molecules. Since ink ink molecules are blue in color.
Therefore, the water also turns blue after sometime. Finally i stopped the timer at ten minutes and test the next one. The food coloring diffused fastest in the hot liquids and slowest in the cold liquids. My science project covered everything I wanted to learn. I reached my objective, which was finding out if food coloring would diffuse with in 10 minutes. I was able to find all of my information without trouble. When my sister sprayed the Febreze in the air I could not quite smell it.
But once it started to diffuse towards me, I soon was able to smell the strong fruity fragrance. I have always wondered how this is remotely possible. I usually spend a while thinking about it.
So for my I- search project. I decided to research diffusion and osmosis. What I know is diffusion works in water and throughout the air. Sprayed perfume or put food coloring in water, it slowly spreads out into the air. When you put food coloring in water it also diffuses. This process is known as diffusion. Another fascinating fact I know is diffusion is very useful in the human body. For example, when you take an Advil or painkiller the pill goes into the body and slowly dissolves. It then diffuses through the body to kill the pain.
The last thing I know is diffusion needs osmosis. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. I would like to know if diffusion is possible without osmosis.
Maybe diffusion has other methods or ways it works. I also want to know how fast things diffuse. My research question is: how fast will blue food coloring diffuse in different liquids and temperature. My research process was a very long and frustrating experience. First I went to a website called biology. It gave me the definition of diffusion which I already know. So I went to another website called science kid. It gave me loads of information.
I was so excited and happy that I found this information! One of them was GCSE bite size. That website told me a lot about active transport and osmosis. I looked at two more websites called Quizlet and E how. If the container of water is warmer or cooler than the ambient air, it will develop convective flow patterns as the water approaches the ambient temperature. In the case of cold water in a warm environment, the sides of the container conduct heat to the periphery of the water.
The cool, denser water at the center sinks. Food coloring added to this sinking center column will ride the convective flow to the bottom of the container, but then it will also ride the flow up the sides, back to the top to cycle around again.
This flow serves to agitate the solution, speeding the diffusion. Compare the effects of heat and density on the diffusion of the food coloring. Try a side-by-side comparison of diffusion in cold water and in warm water.
The diffusion will be much slower in the cold water. Try dissolving half a spoonful of salt in water and then drop the food coloring. The coloring will still diffuse, but it won't sink because the saltwater has a higher specific gravity.
